Thank you for your interest in entering the Sawtry Carnival Court. We are looking for a Carnival Queen, 2x Princesses, a rosebud and a Carnival Prince. We wish to select a Carnival Queen who would ideally be aged 14 years and upwards, Princesses aged between 9 and 13 years and a Rosebud aged between 5 and 8 years. All applicants must live in Sawtry or have association with the village i.e. through school, family etc. to be eligible to apply to be part of the Sawtry Carnival Court. 


The age of the Court is a guide and the selection panel reserve the right to select the Court that they think will best represent Sawtry, their decision will be final. 


This is not a beauty contest and applicants will be selected on personality and their

enthusiasm to be an ambassador for Sawtry.


I agree to my child (if under 18) entering the selection process for the Sawtry Carnival

Court and if chosen my child will be available on Carnival Day Saturday 8th June 2024 and will be available to attend other Carnivals and Events as agreed with the Court Chaperone. I also agree that my child may be photographed whilst on Carnival duties and these photographs may be used for publicity purposes including on the Carnival social media pages.

Rules and Regulations

To apply to become a Sawtry Carnival Court member, all entrants must reside in Sawtry or have a connection with the village. 


The Carnival Court – Rules of Conduct

The following guidelines have been prepared for the selected Carnival Court All contestants must 

read and sign acceptance of these guidelines, on the Entry Form, as condition of entry to the contest.

The Association aims to establish standards of behaviour to preserve the dignity of the Carnival. 

When representing The Association, the Carnival Court should therefore maintain the dignity of their titles and positions.

1. Being ambassadors for The Carnival the Court must, at all times reflect this role by their polite, formal and friendly behaviour.

2. Thank the host for inviting them and remember to say “goodbye” before leaving.

3. Remain seated at the table until after all the speeches have been made.

4. If invited to make a speech, please ensure it is clear and audible.

5. The Court Chaperone is responsible for the Carnival Court until they are returned to the home of their parent/s or guardian/s.

6. No Court member may purchase their own drinks at a public bar. 

7. No member of the Carnival Court may smoke or chew gum whilst on Carnival duties.

8. The Court is expected to act in a dignified manner whilst attending functions and may only leave with the consent of the designated chaperone.

9. No swearing. (Even mild swear words are not becoming of Carnival Court titles.)

10. In the event of a problem at a function, always refer to the designated chaperone. Do not enter into arguments.

11. Whilst holding your title, you should not disclose your private address or telephone number. Neither will you make any statement to the press or be photographed by the media. If at any time a press statement or photograph is required this will be made/organised by a Committee member of the Carnival Association.

12. Personal appearances and official visits will be made only by arrangement through the Court 

Chaperone. On all such occasions the Court will be escorted to the function and back home again as arranged by the Court Chaperone.

13. If any member of the Court wishes to discuss any matter, then they should contact the Court 

Chaperone who will arrange for this to take place at the most convenient time and venue as agreed by all concerned.

14. The Association will provide the chosen Queen and her Attendants with a dress, Tiara and sash which should be worn whilst on official duties and must be laundered regularly. The dress and sash may not be worn throughout the year of office unless on official Carnival duties. Court members must ensure that they have a change of clothes if they are to stay at an event after they have completed their official duties as they may not wear their regalia whilst not on official duties. The dress is to be returned at the end of the reign. The sash and Tiara may be kept.

15. It is the responsibility of the Queen or Attendant to ensure that their hair is clean and tidy whilst on Court duty and arrive at an engagement suitably dressed.

16. If usingSocial networks i.e. Instagram and Facebook throughout your year of office please ensure that nothing that could cause embarrassment to the Court is published or could be associated with you. Always be aware that others may be reading your public tweets and posts so please act responsibly and respect the position you have been placed in.

17. Failure to comply with any of the conditions mentioned above may result in a Court member 

being asked to resign from the Court and not finish their year in office.
